General McChrystal's Afghanistan Assessment
General Stanley McChrystal | International Security Assistance Force | 2009-08-30
At the core of President Barack Obama's new Afghanistan policy is an assessment of the situation by General Stanley McChrystal. The report, which was leaked, calls for a strategy that is sustainable for Afghans and that will gain their trust and support. McChrystal deviates from military paradigm to say that in Afghanistan, it is not brute force, but a focus on the population and their needs that will bring the United States success.
