The Kyoto Protocol

United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change | 1997-12-01

The protocol was adopted in December of 1997 in Kyoto, Japan and entered into force in 2005. As of November 2009, 187 states have signed and ratified the protocol that aims to curb carbon emissions. The United States has not signed the protocol. One of the aims of the climate change conference in Copenhagen is to create a new standard to replace the Kyoto document.
